The Women’s Euros

What a time to be alive.

Locally, I support Walthamstow FC. Born and raised, that one is a no brainer. By default I am also an Arsenal girl because I am a London babe through and through, and it is only right.

But worldwide and with pride? I support England. Always have, always will.

And England always puts on a show. They pull out the stops, they get London buzzing, they bring people together and create something electric. Every single time.

The Euros

The Women's Euros was something else entirely. Leading up to the final I was in the pub, fully in my element, soaking up every moment. There were so many watch parties happening across the city which made it feel even more of a collective experience. What also caught my attention was the beautiful intersection between fashion and football that was emerging. Style and sport coming together, bringing the girls out in full force, and I was here for every bit of it.

The Celebration

What I really want to talk about is the celebration. The Euros celebration was unlike anything I had ever witnessed. Goosebumps run through my body even now just thinking about it. I was completely astounded by the turnout, by the sheer volume of women who showed up, the girls, and the men and boys who came out to show their support too. It was a celebration for the ages and I am so glad it was of that size.

This Women's Euros has without question influenced the next generation. I truly believe we are going to see a significant rise in participation at both grassroots and professional levels because of moments like this. Sometimes all it takes is representation. Even if it starts with just one person who looks like you, the ripple effect of that is immeasurable. People begin to see themselves in that person. They feel inspired. They believe it is possible for them too.

I look forward to watching the next generation of ballers, of young women and girls who found their path through the championing of the England team and their success. That legacy is already being written.

C'mon ladies!

For now signing off.

Love,

Leonie x
